Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) / Software Languages Lab (SOFT)

  • Programme chair of the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (since 2019)
  • Chair, Faculty Student Affairs Committee (Commissie Studentenzaken) (since 2023)
  • Member, VUB Innovation and Valorization Council (since 2025)
  • Member, “Dual Technologies, Military Research and Misuse” Ethics Committee (ECDMM) (since 2023)

Coen De Roover is a full professor at the Software Languages Lab (SOFT) at Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), where he leads the “Code Analysis and Manipulation” (CAMP) focus group. He earned his PhD at VUB in 2009, joined its faculty part-time in 2013, moved to a full-time appointment in 2015 after a spell in 2014 as a visiting assistant professor at Osaka University in Japan, was promoted to associate professor (Hoofddocent) in 2020, and has held the rank of full professor (Hoogleraar) since 2025. His full career timeline is on the CV page.

The central theme of his research is the design of program analyses, and their application to problems in software quality — see the research page for the topics this covers and the projects it spans.

His group has published nearly 200 articles, papers, and other works in the domain, and has been actively involved in collaborative research projects of a fundamental, strategic, or applied nature.

Industry Collaboration

Companies and organisations are welcome to reach out at any stage — for instance for:

  • an informal first conversation to explore whether there is a good fit;
  • help with a feasibility study, often supported by VLAIO (Flanders) or Innoviris (Brussels), to assess an idea before committing to full-scale development;
  • a joint R&D project or contract research; or
  • tailor-made training for your team.

Get in touch to discuss what is possible.
